Located in the heart of Thamel, Kathmandu, Club Nova is an entertainment facility designed with a maximalist approach. Conceptualized to strengthen Nepal’s rising tourism scene, the venue is equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia and technology. The design draws inspiration from nightclubs in the Netherlands, where entertainment venues are seamlessly integrated into the social fabric through multifunctional spaces such as halls, cafés, and museums. Influenced by studies conducted in the Netherlands and the positive impact these venues have on tourism, Club Nova was developed with a similar vision.
Club Nova, visualized through non-Euclidean geometry, creates a fluid and dynamic spatial experience where the venue feels boundless. The continuous, flowing curved decks generate expansive dance floors and intimate private areas, all while highlighting the hydraulically operated ceiling lights.
Designed to accommodate a crowd of 3,500 patrons, the venue spans four levels: a basement dedicated to parking; a ground floor featuring entrances, exits, dance floors, private seating, and a stage; and two upper floors housing private decks. These spaces are connected by an elevator and stairwells that are carefully integrated into the venue’s curved architectural forms.
The concept of a non-Euclidean interior emerged as a response to the sharp angles created by the site’s irregular profile. By adopting a free-flowing spatial language, the design enhances acoustics and gives prominence to the dynamic ceiling system, which can be synchronized with music and programmed animations. Extensive detailing was undertaken across all aspects of the project, including structural design, evacuation planning, fire safety systems, HVAC, acoustic insulation, audio engineering, and lighting integration.
